I have never had a headboard for our current bed so when I saw these slightly scruffy window frames being given away for free at a yard sale I knew they had to come home with me.
Here are some shots from the clean up & transformation process:
This grooved trowel worked well to distress the wood.
A little brown shoe polish worked into some of the exposed wood helped with the aging process.
The outside edges of the windows were particle board that was in really rough shape.
I found a roll of white textured wallpaper at Home Depot on sale for $5, and adhered strips to the edges.
I love Joel Dewberry’s “Aviary 2” fabrics in the saffron palette so I bought a fat quarter bundle on Etsy and cut pieces to the size of the window openings.
With a smallish staple gun I stapled the fabric pieces in place from the back side.
My dear hubby attached the whole thing to some 4×4″ legs that I had painted and distressed, and voila… my headboard was complete!
Rope lighting recessed behind the window frame added a nice ambience!
It was a really fun and inexpensive project, thanks to a great yard sale find. Now what to do with the other window frame?
